See-through supply chains: why do we need transparency in construction projects?
In the UK, major construction companies can spend £5m every day on materials and produccts – yet it is only within the last decade that industry has woken up to the potential environmental, ethical and legal risks in material supply chains. Responsible sourcing is a mechanism through which construction materials and products are purchased from suppliers that have been audited against specific sustainability criteria, including environmental and social requirements. Many companies now offer certified responsibly sourced products, but our research has shown a lack of sufficient market awareness and understanding. Professor Glass will provide an update on this subject – covering both industrial developments and ethical specification. The research will explore transparency and traceability in supply chains, in a problem space that is characterised by global, multi-actor, and multi-criteria decision-making.
